Mimi’s House

A New Model for Maternal Care in Boston

Mimi’s House is Maternal Health Haven’s flagship project—a proposed community-based maternal care site located in Boston designed for high-risk pregnant and post-partum women experiencing housing insecurity. Mimi’s House will combine maternal health care with care coordination, mental health support, and connection to community resources. The model is tested, financially sustainable, revenue generating, designed to achieve transformative health outcomes for high-risk mothers and their newborns, and to reduce reliance on inpatient hospitalizations.

Closing the Gap for Boston’s Most Vulnerable Mothers and Babies

Every pregnancy is a time of profound change, and every woman deserves safety, support, and skilled medical care. Yet for women experiencing homelessness or profound housing instability, especially those with complex health needs, access to quality care can be extremely limited. Home care services are not an option if there is no safe or stable home to receive those services. In Massachusetts, homelessness is on the rise, and an alarming number of women are living without stable housing. Pregnant women of color face even greater risks of complications when housing and essential resources are out of reach.

Hospitals and shelters are not designed to provide the kind of holistic, comprehensive care these families need. Mimi’s House seeks to close this gap by offering a safe, supportive environment where mothers can heal. Services will include bedside nursing and portable fetal heart monitoring, uncomplicated post-partum care, mental health assessments and counseling, education on pregnancy and post-partum health, and lactation support. This approach helps women avoid unnecessary hospital stays and begin to build lasting health and stability for themselves and their babies.
